Fun Times!

I'm going to be mad at myself tomorrow for not sleeping right now while Lucas is sleeping; however, we have been having way too much fun at our music class to not share the news.
'Boogin' Babies'
is the class name at a little gem of a place called Musical Magic here in Chicago. Lots of singing, dancing and playing. Lucas loves it and I think Megan loves it even more. Our former nanny is in the class with the new little one that she is caring for and we've made new friends too. Lucas loves to watch the instructor lead us in song and he crawls right up to her and watches intently. He crawls around and checks out the other babies and moms and is becoming known as a bit of a social butterfly in the group. Interesting...coming from two parents with a history of being on the shyer side. He's becoming more independent each time we go. Last week our friend joked that I could practically just drop him off to attend class by himself. How funny!
We're working on memorizing the lyrics of all the songs because when we sing them at home, Lucas' face lights up. I really think it is his favorite place to go and I know that it is the highlight of my week.
We're sad that there is only one class left!

He Did It!!

It happened! He slept through the night last night!!!
7pm until just before 5am.
We have no idea how this happened. Nothing seemed different and the night before we were up either 3 or 4 times.
Wow! We are soooo happy!!

It's been rough!

We have had one hell of a week that has ended with Chad and I sleeping on the couches in the living room for the second night in a row. Our little man's night sleeping has been completely out of whack this week.

Unfortunately, he is still not sleeping through the night at 8.5 months. We got really close prior to his teeth coming in but since that time, he is up more often requesting food than he has anytime before.

Twice this week Lucas fell asleep for the night at about 4pm in the afternoon. On two different nights, he was wide awake in the middle of the night ready to play.

One major problem is that we share a room with this little angel which means that all three of us are up.

Somehow, no matter how quiet we are, he seems to always wake up when we drag our tired bodies into bed. Even though we are completely exhausted, we seem to wake every time he makes a noise or moves in his crib.

I know that we are not supposed to be feeding him at night but that seems to be the only thing that he wants.

In our desperation for some answers, we stumbled across a helpful and entertaining blog, askmoxie.org. Here we read the stories of other crazy fools who raised an infant in an apartment.

Who knew we weren't the only ones living in a one "bedroom" (without walls) loft with a baby, tiptoeing and whispering in the dark by about 7pm every night.

How refreshing to know that many others have experience sharing a bedroom with a baby who does not sleep through the night.

How did these people manage this???

Basically, most said that it was hell!

Big Boy

I grew two teeth!

Lovin' it!

We are having so much fun!
I can't believe how fast Lucas is changing! He pulled himself up for the first time last night. It is adorable to see how proud he is when he accomplishes something.
I'm so glad I can be home to watch him and be a part of this.
He gets more and more fun every day.

He likes to use the spoon himself and boy does he make a mess!

Lucas has a box of toys that keep him very content!

He crawls everywhere so in some ways it is nice to live in a small place.

Happy Day!

So I started my new job yesterday.
Stay-at-home Mom!
I am so excited. My postdoc fellowship ended last Friday so now I am home all day with our little man. I have big dreams for this new endeavor...park, play dates, walks, play groups, etc.
Too bad it's winter time!

This is how excited we are!!

Actually, I am just hoping that Lucas enjoys our time together as much as he enjoyed his time with his nanny, Rebecca!

Grandparents

We had back-to-back weeks of visits from grandparents which was so fun. Lucas met Grandma Veeta and Grandpa Chuck for the first time. We did lots of fun things like visit the botanical gardens, eat out (in a restaurant!), and cook. We also went to a baseball game. Fun times!

Lucas loved Grandpa Chuck's mustache.

Fun at the park.

Lucas loves to walk...with help.

Grandma Veeta was so good at feeding Lucas. She kept him really clean!

Some Firsts!

We had a busy weekend last weekend with lots of firsts. Aunt Stephanie was here for a visit. We had so much fun with her and she was a big help. Lucas had rice cereal for the first time on Saturday. We also FINALLY bought him a crib. He has been too big for his bassinet for quite some time but in our hopes to sell our condo and avoid squeezing another piece of furniture in our small space, we postponed the inevitable. Finally we couldn't take any longer and did some shopping. We had to strap the crib box to the top of the car to get it home from the store. I'm sure we looked ridiculous!
Lucas rolled onto his tummy for the first time last night. Chad and I were eating dinner at the table watching him play on his mat. He rolled over all by himself twice giving us a great show. How fun!! He is getting so fun and cuter every day!!! We just love him to pieces.

Asleep after a big meal.

Exhausted.

Some of my favorite pics!

Lucas is now four months old! We can't believe it. We just had a doctors appointment. He weighs 15 pounds and 4 ounces. He is 26 1/4" long. We are excited to start feeding him rice cereal, fruits, and veggies now that we got the okay from his pediatrician. Good times!!!

Heather's Wedding

We were in North Carolina last weekend for our friend Heather Hoge's wedding. The wedding was beautiful, the bride was beautiful, and the weather was beautiful. It was great to see and catch up with friends, some of whom we haven't seen in years like Leslie Croshaw and her husband Alex who we met for the first time. We were so sad that Kristi, Robert, and little Max McBride weren't able to make it. It was just not the same without them. There was definitely a piece missing.
Lucas did great. Here are some pictures.

Maddy was a beautiful flower girl!

Big Boy

It is so nice here today, so Lucas and dad went for a long walk! Usually he lasts only about 30 minutes but he made it about an hour today. I think he might be an arborist when he grows up. He loves looking at the trees.
